Mark Scheifele scored two goals, Connor Hellebuyck made 30 saves and the Winnipeg Jets defeated the visiting Los Angeles Kings 3-2 on Saturday.
Alex Iafallo also scored for the Jets, who bounced back after losing their opener to the Dallas Stars on Thursday night. Gabriel Vilardi had two assists for Winnipeg.
Adrian Kempe had a goal with an assist and Mikey Anderson also scored for the Kings, who have lost two of three to start the season. Darcy Kuemper made 24 saves for Los Angeles.
Iafallo gave the Jets a 1-0 lead against his former team at 4:48 of the first period. He got the puck at the inside edge of the right circle off a pass from Kyle Connor and elevated a shot past Kuemper during a power play.
Anderson tied it 1-1 when he took a pass from Drew Doughty and scored on a slap shot from the point through a screen 50 seconds into the 2nd period.
The Kings took a 2-1 lead off a pretty passing sequence at 9:12 of the second period. Andrei Kuzmenko carried into the right circle and passed behind his back to Anze Kopitar, who fed across the slot to Kempe for the tip-in.
Scheifele tied it 2-2 when he entered the zone, drove the net and lifted a backhander home at 18:57 of the second period.
Scheifele gave the Jets a 3-2 lead when he deflected Josh Morrissey's shot from the left point past Kuemper at 11:47 of the third period.
The Kings went on a power play with 3:30 left in the game but could not convert. Los Angeles pulled Kuemper late in the power play and kept the puck in the Winnipeg zone but could not get a shot past Hellebuyck.
Winnipeg took another penalty with 18 seconds left, but on the ensuing draw, the Jets were able to win the puck and clear it out of the zone.
The Jets went 1-for-4 on the power play while the Kings were 0-for-5.--Field Level Media
