PARIS, France: Cross-Channel rail travel began moving again on New Year's Eve after a power supply fault forced Eurostar to suspend services for much of the previous day, though the operator cautioned passengers that disruption could persist.
Eurostar said all of its routes through the Channel Tunnel were set to run again, following repairs to an overhead power supply system that failed on December 30. The outage caused widespread disruption during one of the busiest travel periods of the year, stranding or delaying thousands of passengers travelling between London, Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam.
The high-speed rail operator said the technical issue had been resolved but warned that residual problems from the earlier shutdown and overnight infrastructure issues could still affect operations.
"Services resumed today following a power issue in the Channel Tunnel yesterday and some further issues with rail infrastructure overnight," Eurostar said in a statement posted on its website on the morning of December 31.
"We plan to run all of our services today, due to knock-on impacts, there may still be some delays and possible last-minute cancellations," it added.
