Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the visiting Philadelphia Eagles, the team announced Saturday.
Worthy was listed as doubtful for the Chiefs (0-1) in the Super Bowl LIX rematch as he dealt with a dislocated right shoulder. The injury was sustained after he collided with teammate Travis Kelce on a crossing route in the season opener.
Saturday's news is not necessarily shocking, as Kansas City head coach Andy Reid said one day earlier that Worthy had a 'slim' chance of playing.
While running drills at practice Thursday, Worthy was wearing a white protective sleeve on his right arm that included padding at the upper arm and shoulder. Worthy did not participate in Wednesday's practice and was a limited participant both Thursday and Friday.
Worthy enjoyed a fine rookie campaign last season when he scored nine touchdowns -- six receiving, three rushing. He caught 59 passes for 638 yards.
The 22-year-old was expected to help soften the early-season loss of Rashee Rice, who is serving a six-game suspension for violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy.
Rice, 25, was disciplined for his role in a multi-car, chain-reaction collision on a Dallas freeway in 2024. He pled guilty in July to two third-degree felony charges of collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury.
