Jack McGlynn scored a brace that included the match-tying goal in the 89th minute as the visiting Houston Dynamo roared from behind to forge a 2-2 draw with Austin FC on Saturday in a Copa Tejas clash between the Lone Star State rivals.
McGlynn's equalizer completed a rally over the final 10 minutes and stoppage time after Houston looked all but dead in the water. He scored off a pass from Lawrence Ennali that beat Austin keeper Brad Stuver.
Despite the draw, the Dynamo (7-11-7, 28 points) are winless in their past four MLS matches (0-2-2) and are still mired in 12th place in the West.
The Verde (9-8-7, 34 points) remain in seventh place in the Western Conference and are 4-1-2 in their seven MLS matches in June, July and August.
Houston pushed hard for the opening goal as Felipe Andrade tested Stuver in both the 17th and 21st minutes with low-percentage shots that were saved.
The Verde struck first when Ilie Sanchez followed up the rebound of his header off a corner kick from Owen Wolff in the 31st minute and beat Houston goalkeeper Jonathan Bond to the lower right corner. Bond had no chance to make the save after coming well off his line to stop Sanchez's powerful first try.
Stuver kept Austin on top with a save on a Griffin Dorsey shot in the 36th minute.
Guilherme Biro then added to the Verde's lead, turning around a pass from Osman Bukari in the 41st minute with a header into the top left corner. Bukari got almost to the end line at the near post before centering a pass to Biro, who made short work of the opportunity.
McGlynn gave the Dynamo hope when he converted from the spot in the 80th minute after Pablo Ortiz drew a foul in the box from Austin's Robert Taylor. That set the stage for his equalizer and for Houston to split the points with its stunning rally.
