Anthony Edwards scored 23 points on 10-for-21 shooting and the Minnesota Timberwolves rallied for a 104-103 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday evening in Minneapolis.
Donte DiVincenzo scored 19 points for Minnesota, which won for the fifth time in its past six games. Naz Reid posted a double-double off the bench with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Julius Randle finished with 15 points.
Victor Wembanyama scored 29 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead San Antonio, which lost for the first time in three games. Keldon Johnson scored 15 points off the bench, and Julian Champagnie finished with 14 points.
The Timberwolves erased a 19-point deficit to grab their first lead in the final minutes.
Stephon Castle made one of two free-throw attempts to give San Antonio a 69-50 advantage with 7:11 remaining in the third quarter.
Minnesota closed the gap a bit but trailed by 14 at the end of the third quarter. Johnson made a pair of free throws to give the Spurs an 85-71 lead with 3.7 seconds remaining in the session.
The Timberwolves stormed back in the final 12 minutes. They opened the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run that included a 3-pointer and two free throws from Bones Hyland. Reid punctuated the run with a jump shot that cut the deficit to 85-78 with 9:02 to go.
The comeback continued as Minnesota evened the score at 96-all with 3:27 to play on a three-point play by Randle.
Harrison Barnes gave the Spurs a 101-100 lead when he knocked down a 3-pointer with 1:28 to go.
Jaden McDaniels answered with a fadeaway jumper to put the Timberwolves on top 102-101 with 48.7 seconds remaining.
Again, the Spurs answered. De'Aaron Fox hit a pull-up jumper to make it 103-102 with 33.7 seconds to go.
Edwards provided the final highlight when he found a sliver of space against Wembanyama and drove for a floating bank shot with 16.8 seconds left.
San Antonio had multiple chances on its final possession but could not capitalize. The final shot belonged to Fox, who missed a 3-point attempt just before the buzzer.
The Spurs led 55-42 at the half.
Timberwolves coach Chris Finch missed the game because of an illness. Top assistant Micah Nori coached the team in Finch's absence.
