John Brebbia ran his streak of consecutive scoreless starts to nine, Joc Pederson tripled home two runs and the San Francisco Giants beat the visiting Colorado Rockies for a seventh straight time, taking a 6-3 decision on Wednesday.
Brebbia combined with Sean Hjelle (1-2), Shelby Miller, Tyler Rogers and Yunior Marte on a four-hitter, helping the Giants (77-78) move within one game of .500 for the first time since they were 61-62 on Aug. 24.
Hjelle was credited with his first major league win after allowing two runs (one earned) in four innings.
Brebbia got the ball rolling for the Giants with a 1-2-3 first inning. He has pitched a scoreless first -- and nothing more -- in all nine of his starts this year, matching the record set by Ryne Stanek in 2018 and tied by Chad Green in 2019 for the most consecutive scoreless starts in a single season.
The right-hander was so good, however, he had his record streak of eight straight starts allowing exactly one hit come to an end. No other pitcher in major league history has had a run of one-hit starts longer than four.
Brebbia left with a lead, thanks to a three-run Giants first, but didn't pitch the minimum of five innings required for a starter to qualify for a potential win.
Pederson, J.D. Davis and Mike Yastrzemski began the first against Rockies starter Jose Urena (3-8) with consecutive singles, and all came around to score for an immediate 3-0 Giants lead.
The Rockies countered with a run-scoring infield out by Elehuris Montero in the second and a solo homer by Alan Trejo, his fourth, in the fifth. The Giants put the game away with another three-run uprising in the sixth.
Pederson's triple was the big hit of the sixth. It came after Ford Proctor recorded his first big-league RBI on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.
Pederson and David Villar each finished with two hits for the Giants, who won for the eighth time in their past nine games. Their seven-game run against the Rockies dates back to Aug. 21.
Michael Toglia capped the game's scoring with an RBI infield out in the ninth inning for the Rockies (65-90), who have dropped eight of nine.
