Zakat is an obligatory act for all Muslims. It refers to the annual amount poor people should receive from those who can afford it. It also encourages believers to help those in need without looking for material gains. Paying Zakat is said to purify the person who produce it and their money by making them more charitable and closer to Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala). Pay Zakat is also one of the central teachings in Islam.
Here is some information about Paying Zakat:
- Paying Zakat should not replace Hajj or other obligations. It is somewhat authentically reported that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "The highest forms of faith are to love for others what you love for yourself and to hate for others what you hate for yourself, to help people in need and to pardon those who wronged you." Paying Zakat is a form of loving, helping, and pardoning people.
"Those who have embraced Islam are bound to pay Zakat. Paying Zakat is compulsory for every Muslim, male or female, who has attained puberty and who owns gold equivalent to at least the value of 77 grams that is 495 grams or more than that." The Holy Quran Chapter 9 verse 104
Paying Zakat was ordained in the second year after Hijrah as a result of the Battle of Badr, which took place on 13th Ramadan, 2 A.H. After this battle some booty came into Prophet Muhammad's hands as spoils of war from the Banu Quraizah tribe and some weapons, horses and camels captured from other tribes on seasons of Hajj. At first, he divided all these trophies among those who participated in that battle and later distributed them among those who were entitled to receive Zakat. Paying Zakat is an obligatory act for every Muslim, male or female, who has attained puberty and owns gold equivalent to at least the value of 77 grams that is 495 grams or more than that, and the owner must be free from a need to own such a sum.
Paying Zakat is compulsory on all Muslims except:
The exempt people from paying Zakat can still give it as Sadaqah (voluntary charity). Paying Zakat is compulsory for every Muslim, male or female, who has attained puberty and possesses gold equivalent to more than the value of 77 grams that is 495 grams. Paying Zakat brings about many benefits to those obliged to pay it and those entitled to receive its payment. Allah will ease the way towards the sustenance of those living in this world by accepting the wealth through Paying Zakat and giving them more of His bounties. Paying Zakat also purifies the person who pays it and their wealth by making him more charitable and closer to Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala). Paying Zakat provides opportunities for people to gain wealth and avoid its misappropriation. It also encourages believers to help those in need without looking for material gains. Paying Zakat is said to purify the person who produce it and their money by making them more charitable and closer to Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala). Paying Zakat will be counted as Sadaqah-Jariyah, a perpetual charity with no end when given by a wealthy person. This type of charity benefits the giver and others who take advantage of it. Paying Zakat will help purify one's money by increasing its blessings and sustenance. Paying Zakat is an act of worship that Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala) has obligatory on all Muslims. Without any pride or vanity, paying Zakat must be given to gain Allah's pleasure and reward. As Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "The person who pays Zakat sacrifices his money for his life, and he receives no reward in return other than Paradise." Paying Zakat is compulsory on every Muslim, male or female, who has attained puberty if they own gold to at least the value of 77 grams that is 495 grams or more.
