The Missouri Tigers will try to get struggling offense back on track on Monday whey host the Paul Quinn College Tigers in Columbia, Mo.
Missouri (3-3) comes into this game reeling from its 61-55 loss to Wichita State at home Friday.
The Tigers missed 16-of-18 shots from 3-point range and 43 of66 shots overall. They attacked the rim consistently against the Shockers' defense, but they failed to consistently convert their drives and put-back shots.
"I thought in most cases they were open 3s tonight, probably just didn't fall," Missouri coach Cuonzo Martin said. "The last four games, we have to be better, because we're missing too many at the rim on layups. We have to be better at that. For some reason, we're not making layups."
The Tigers were similarly cold in their previous game, an 81-58 loss to Florida State in the Jacksonville Classic. They missed 16-of-22 shots from beyond the arc in that game and shot just 38.2 percent from the floor overall.
Kobe Brown, Missouri's leading scorer (14.7 per game) and rebounder (7.3 per game), scored just eight points against Wichita State on 3-for-14 shooting.
Amari Davis scored 17 points against the Shockers, giving him 45 in his last three games.
"We just have to keep shooting, trust other guys to make shots and make plays for others," Davis said. "Cut down on the turnovers. Those turnovers that we had could turn into more shots on offense, some that we could have made."
Paul Quinn (3-3) is an NAIA school playing in the Red River Athletic Conference. These Tigers are 0-3 against NCAA Division I schools this season with losses to Southeastern Louisiana (77-60), Texas Rio Grande Valley (85-68) and Tarleton State (69-42).
Paul Quinn will also play Texas State later this season. Tigers coach Brandon Espinosa has strong connections with D-I coaches as coach of the Drive Nation 17U team at the grass roots level.
This Dallas school, the oldest historically black college in the Southwest, recently upped its commitment to basketball by investing in a new home court.
"Since the court unveiling, I've had hundreds of emails, texts and DMs inquiring about our program," Espinosa told ESPN. "It is a very special time to be at Paul Quinn College."
Paul Quinn is led by twin guards Ja'Mere and Ja'Mare Redus, who have combined to average 18.7 points against D-I opponents this season. Ja'Mere Redus scored 17 against Southeastern Louisiana.
Forward Spencer McElway, an all-Red River Athletic Conference selection, averaged 8.0 points and 6.3 rebounds in the three D-I games.
