Quenton Jackson scored 15 of his 18 points in the second half to help rally Texas AM to a 73-67 victory against Notre Dame on Wednesday night in the fifth-place game of the Maui Invitational at Las Vegas.
Hassan Diarra had 17 points and Wade Taylor IV scored all 14 of his points in the second half for the Aggies (6-1), who trailed by 10 points at halftime and by 14 with 16:40 to go.
Dane Goodwin had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Fighting Irish (3-2), who committed 12 of their 18 turnovers during the final 20 minutes.
Blake Wesley's layup in the final seconds was Notre Dame's first field goal since the 9:00 mark.
Texas AM wore down Notre Dame by playing 12 players, compared to the Fighting Irish's seven. The Aggies prevailed despite shooting 14 of 29 (48.3 percent) from the foul line.
The Aggies hit 8 of 9 field-goal attempts to pull within 52-48 with 10:24 left. Soon after, Jackson stripped Prentiss Hubb and scampered for a dunk that cut the Aggies' deficit to a point.
Diarra hit two free throws at 7:48 to give Texas AM a 55-54 edge, its first lead since being up 1-0. The Aggies never trailed after that.
Goodwin had 11 points and five rebounds to help Notre Dame build a 32-22 halftime lead despite the Fighting Irish shooting 38.5 percent from the floor and 3 of 12 from 3-point range.
Goodwin had seven points to fuel a 10-0 run that put ahead Notre Dame 29-17 with 2:12 remaining in the half.
The Aggies only led for 43 seconds -- after Henry Coleman III's free throw opened the scoring -- and were outrebounded 25-15 in the first half. Texas AM sank just 9 of 28 shots (32.1 percent) prior to the break.
It was the programs' first-ever meeting.
