Hike Dominica's Waitukubuli National Trail
Are you looking for a bit of a challenge while visiting the Caribbean? If so, consider hiking the 115 miles of the Waitukubuli National Trail. This is bound to be a fun and unforgettable experience. This trail has been split into 14 individual sections. What this means is if you don't feel quite as adventurous, you can choose to tackle as much or little of the trail as you want.
Called the "Nature Island," this route that spans from one coast to another offers some of the most scenic landscapes in all of Dominica, including the Morne Trois Pitons National Park. This has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Visit the Bahamas To Swim With the Pigs
The Caribbean is famous for its amazing sea life, and the area boasts having some of the best diving spots in the world. However, an uninhabited island called Big Major's Spot is found in the Exuma chain of islands where you can swim with a different type of animal - pigs.
The pink and brown wild pigs live a life of luxury on the white sandy beach, and locals now affectionately refer to it as "pig beach." There are countless rumors about how the pigs first came to live on the island, with some claiming they swam to the shore from a shipwreck while others believe that they were dropped off by sailors who had the intention of coming back, killing, and cooking them.
Today, though, the pigs have it made. Locals come to feed and swim with the pigs, and it is something that you should definitely have on your list of "to-dos" while visiting the Caribbean. However, just because the pigs are friendly, they are also prepared to swim after you in hopes of another snack. If you want to experience this yourself, this is a place you need to visit.
See the Stingrays at the Cayman Islands
In the North Sound of Grand Cayman, you will find something called Stingray City. This series of shallow sandbars allows you to swim with and feed stingrays in crystal-clear waters. The stingrays in this area have become accustomed to being fed by tourists and, because of this, are quite friendly.
If you plan to make this an activity for the whole family, you can even interact with these creatures in just a meter of water. If you are a bit more adventurous and travel with adults or older children, you can schedule scuba dives and sit on the ocean floor with stingrays. There's no doubt that this is one of the most amazing diving experiences that you can have while visiting the Caribbean.
Take a Hike at Gros Piton
In St. Lucia, you will find the Pitons, which are considered one of the most iconic sites in the area. However, if you really want to experience what this area has to offer, you need to make the climb. Gros Piton is the second highest peak in St. Lucia at 786 meters, coming in just behind Mount Genie. It is also easier to climb than Petit Piton and is the only hike that the government has sanctioned.
While the hike to the top will take around five hours, the view you get when you reach the top is something that is well worth the time and effort. This is why it should definitely be on your list of places to visit in the Caribbean.
